Reta Green M. Ed.
I am best known in Calgary for my expertise in couples counselling, and in relationship therapy in general. I have attended intensive training from some of the best leaders in couples therapy and have developed my own unique style of working with relationships. My focus goes beyond the day-to-day complaints in a relationship to the “real issues,” such as betrayal, anger, conflict, secrets and addictions. My approach has been described by clients as “compassionate, powerful and direct.”
I have over 25 years of experience working with all aspects of adult concerns, including attachment issues, trauma, depression, anxiety, conflict, loss, separation, and divorce. I have also completed extra training in the field of addictions and compulsive behaviour. This includes both substance addictions, drugs and alcohol, and process addictions, which include unhealthy relationships with sex, work, gambling, and food. I am knowledgeable about addiction assessments and referrals to treatment centers in Alberta and Canada.
I work with First Responders (Police Officers, Fire Fighters, etc.) as well as with Military Personnel (Veterans, current members) who present with various symptoms & disorders. I utilize several trauma techniques and solution-focused therapies to work with intrusive recurring memories, feelings of detachment, and PTSD in general. I have also done counselling with the spouses if these individuals.

CURRENTLY NOT ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS
As a College of Alberta Registered Psychologist, I strive to meet the counselling needs of adults, couples, families, and teens struggling with issues stemming from their experience of anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, separation and divorce, parenting, family functioning, workplace problems, work/life balance, couples with relationship challenges, pre-marriage considerations, and wellness struggles.
I strive to utilize various approaches from the perspective of matching interventions to individuals according to their self-described needs. I hold to the assertion that people only know what they know and that explorations in how they think, feel, and behave open them to growth in their respective areas of knowing. I am very honored to have received affirmations from the people I serve and my colleagues that I am a very pleasant, present and caring individual who provides people with the problem solving content needed to improve their circumstances and to manage their problem situation/s by facilitating their ability to access their unused resources and opportunities for learning and growth.
Personal Background: Since it is very important that there is a “good fit” between psychologists and the people they serve, the following is a brief background that I hope will give you more information about me that I hope will help you determine whether you think that I am someone with whom you can establish a strong psycho-therapeutic relationship.
I grew up on a farm in southern Manitoba. I enjoyed being part of a large family who valued family, friends, community, church, hard work, and the great outdoors. When I moved to Calgary, I worked as a Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer with the City of Calgary while raising my children with my husband. I have also held positions with Alberta Health Services (at the Family Caregiver Centre, and The Calgary Board of Education (at the Teacher’s Resource Centre).
I received a Social Work Diploma from the Assiniboine Community College in Brandon, Manitoba. I completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of Calgary. I then completed a Master of Counselling Degree from the Campus Alberta Applied Psychology Program (a University of Calgary, Athabasca University, and University of Lethbridge Collaboration) with a Specialization in Counselling Psychology in 2006. I have been an active College of Alberta Registered Psychologist since 2008.

Hello! I focus on treating trauma, couples therapy, and mental health disorders such as depression and anxiety. I work primarily with adults as well as adolescents through Individual, Couples, and Family therapy. My personal belief is that every individual has the capacity to reach meaningful happiness in their goals and relationships provided they can partner with the support needed to overcome their challenges.
I focus on promoting positive beliefs while helping clients understand how trauma affects our bodies. Trauma, both large and small, has become an increased focus of my practice, as I help clients with needs ranging from PTSD, generational trauma, abuse related trauma and more. I acknowledge how developmental life experiences can regularly make physical, emotional, and mental barriers to reaching our goals. In this way, I strive to address the past, while nurturing client’s present and future connection with their values.
I find a particular passion in working with relationships, and specialize in couples therapy. I utilize Gottman Method Couples Therapy tools while integrating other therapies that assist in overcoming broken trust, resentment, and other underlying needs that often prevent couples from reaching success. Among other couples’ needs, I regularly treat conflict, divorce/separation, affairs, and provide premarital therapy. Whenever possible, I see to involve the family system in reaching both individual and group goals.
Additional areas I have experience working with include Mood Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, burnout, grief and complex bereavement, unhealthy sleep and nightmares, adolescent and young adult life transitions, pornography and gaming addictions, loneliness and more. I see clients as experts in their own life, and my role is to be a guide and partner, by providing tools that have overcome similar struggles.
